We’re still a long ways off from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1’s release, but this fan-made opening credits sequence will make you feel like it’s November already. With bonus James Bond and Lorde (well, Tears for Fears, really) influences!
Diehard fan Anne Winkler made this video as part of her bachelors degree in communications. “The title sequence is based on the symbolism of the story und uses a graphical style, referring to the ‘propos’ from the story itself and to create a consistent style to combine content from all three books/movies,” she writes on Vimeo.
We have to agree with io9 that we’re getting a major James Bond vibe from these faux-opening credits. With Lorde’s cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” (which is on the Catching Fire soundtrack), you can’t not imagine covert affairs, intrigue, and fake love affairs played for the distraction of the citizens of Panem.
There’s also the way that the graphics blend with and cut away from each other. It’s really artfully done. Fans will appreciate Winkler’s attention to detail, from the old-fashioned microphone to the hanging tree (from Katniss’ dad’s song) to… well, to the silver parachutes that play such a big part in the novels.
Don’t mind us, just stifling sobs in the corner. Watch this, and you’ll feel like you’re a few steps closer to Mockingjay, Part 1.
